Here are answers to frequently asked questions :
1. What is the SCBWI Booktalk & Critique?
This is a monthly meeting of SCBWI Philasia, the Philippine chapter of the Society of Children’s Writers & Illustrators (SCBWI). It is held every second Monday of the month, from 6 to 9 pm at McCafe Greenbelt I, Paseo de Roxas, Makati in front of the Asian Institute of Management.
2. Do I have to be a SCBWI member to attend?
No. At these meetings, we welcome members and non-members, published and unpublished writers and illustrators, and anyone who is keenly interested in literature for children anywhere in the world.
3. What do I need to bring?
Any book for children or young adults that you would like to talk about for 5 to 10 minutes. Or, your work in progress for group critiquing. This can be your manuscript or your illustrations, meant for an article or a book. Plus, P120 for the attendance fee (P100 for members) which goes towards one hot or cold drink for you during the meeting.
4. Who runs the SCBWI Booktalk & Critique?
The meeting is run by Beaulah Taguiwalo, SCBWI Regional Advisor and Dominique Torres (Nikki), SCBWI Assistant Regional Advisor.
5. What is the SCBWI?
The SCBWI is the only international organization dedicated to serving the needs of children’s book writers and illustrators. It was founded in California more than 30 years ago and now has more than 20,000 members worldwide.
6. Who can join the SCBWI? How?
Published or unpublished writers for children and young adults are welcome to join, as well as anyone who has a keen interested in children’s literature. Signing up can be done online at http://www.scbwi.org or by filling up a membership application form and submitting it to the nearest SCBWI Regional Advisor.
